MGMS Field Trips

Probably one of the biggest benefits of being a member are the guided field trips. Field trips are typically any month except for December. (December is our Gem Show month.) Most trips are day trips, gathering about 8:00 am and leaving the site around 2:00 pm so you can be home for dinner. On long trips some travel to the area on Friday camping or staying in hotels, spend all day Saturday in the field, and on Sunday they may visit another location in the area before heading home. The bulk of the areas we go to are unpublished or access by permission areas not available to most of the public. We do mostly surface collecting or if owners permit, light digging. Most trips are kid friendly unless otherwise noted. We try not to hike more than a 1/2 mile on field trips, only up hill for half the round trip. Details on the trip as to where and when to meet, what we are looking for, road conditions, and what tools you'll need are published in the Golden Nugget newsletter before the trip.

Please note that while our meetings are open to the general public, our field trips are planned with a limited capacity for the enjoyment of our members, who get first choice. If your visit to Montgomery coincides with one of our field trip dates, and you would like to join us, please contact the field trip coordinator. If there is space available on our field trip, you are welcome to attend once you and your family have joined our club and signed the appropriate waivers. • Interested members must sign up for membership one month before the trip.
• If you do sign up for a trip and can’t go – please be considerate and cancel your reservation by contacting the field trip coordinator.
• If you wish to join, please use our Membership Application Form.
• Please note our club liability insurance covers damage to property, but not personal injury. Participation in club sponsored events is at your own risk.
• You must be a member to attend any SE Federation field trips. Membership in the Montgomery Gem & Mineral Society also gives you membership in SE Federation.

• Field trips are open to all members of associated clubs of the DMC program of the SFMS Field Trip Committee and to all members of SFMS member clubs who have provided their membership with SFMS liability insurance.
• Because of insurance requirements, members of the GENERAL PUBLIC are NOT invited on this or any DMC program field trips!
• DMC Program / SFMS Field Trip committee's purpose: To collect field trip information from it's member societies; schedule and coordinate field trip dates; disseminate field trip information to all member clubs so that each member society may publish this information as one of their "official" scheduled field trips.
