Cab Dopping
|
|
STEP 1 |
The dopping method provides a way to hold your stone while cabbing, which gives you easier control over your cabochon while grinding and polishing. It secures your stone to a stick using a special dop wax as the adhesive. Dopping is a good method to use if you’re polishing smaller or delicate cabs. It also saves your fingers from unnecessary abuse. |
STEP 2 |
Warm preformed stone on dop wax unit, with the top side down. Select a dop stick almost as wide as the preform finished size. This will permit maximum holding power of dop stick to cab. Allow some side room for the wax body. Dip dop stick in wax turning it to get full coverage all around. Remove from pot and with knife in hand, place wax end down on cab. Push wax onto cab forming a cone shape. Gently remove from dop unit and wait for wax to cool. Check your work for good shape and adhesion to where it is non-interference with grinding and sanding steps. |
STEP 3 |
Once cooled down, check adhesion to confirm a good attachment. If all checks out, you are ready for grinding. |
